Update on the nomination progress of Hin Nam No National Park as a World Heritage Site meeting

The meeting are co-chaired by Mr. Phouvieng Sisounthone deputy head of Bualapha district and Mr. Bounchan Xaipanya head of provincial agriculture and forestry office, with participated of Mr. Khamkeo Ladthayord head of Hin Nam No national park with the park management committee, Mr. Bastian Flury Hin Nam No team leader from ProFEB project, representative from the Department of Forestry, Department of Heritage, representative from District Co-management Committee and Village Co-management Committee. The purpose of organizing this meeting includes 5 main objectives:
– Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT)
– Update on nomination process
– Go through the Draft and approve the FPIC Action Plan (Free Prior Inform Consent)
– Summary of Hin Nam No National Park Management 2022 and Action Plan for 2023
– Indicators monitoring
The meeting carried out the process of Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) evaluation of the implementation of the previous task within 2022, the process was carried out by evaluating together and separating in groups to evaluate according to the topic in line with each group (Park management, DCMC and VCMC) to give points in the implementation results in the previous year.
Update on the nomination progress of Hin Nam No National Park as a World Heritage Site, in which Mr. Bastian Flury also reviewed on the achievements and some work that need to be done and prepared in term of the nomination dossiers to nominate Hin Nam No National Park as a World Heritage Site will be submit by the beginning of February 2023.
The FPIC action plan is one of the documents that must be completed as an appendix to the nomination dossier, so based on the results of the implementation of the FPIC, a plan has been drafted to verify together with the co-management committees and approve at the district and village levels, propose to the provincial steering committee and to approve this action plan.
Mr. Lamphong Xaypomong, Deputy Head of Hin Nam No National Park reviewed the implementation results of Hin Nam No National Park in 2022 and the action plan for 2023, At the same time, the meeting also opened the floor for the participants to provide comments and suggestions on many topics to improve the plan.
Biodiversity and research unit went through the monitoring and evaluation of the indicators of outstanding universal value (OUV) of Hin Nam No National Park, such as landscape and diversity of biodiversity, in which the main indicators were determined, such as monitoring the increase or decrease of wildlife population, threats, quality control and development. Also clarify on issues, challenges, and recommendations on the way of management and aware of the indicators.
